Full STEAM ahead!

This fall our school received an art teacher grant from ArtsGreensboro to work closely with Green Hill Center for N.C. Art on several projects.  The grant allowed all of our 3rd grade students to visit an exhibition called Microcosm.  In the exhibition, artists integrated science with art. Students saw everything from bug portraits (using a scanning electron microscope) to bacteria culture art.  Each third grader also created a Cyanotype print in the art room and then they each saw their own work on display in ArtQuest!   To see some images of the field trip, click here:

Later this fall, all teachers from Irving Park Elementary visited Green Hill for a two part workshop.  We learned some best practices for integrating art into core curriculum with science, math and technology and experimented with fun new projects like gelatin printmaking, chromatography and using iPads as microscopes for "Macrophotography." Here are some pictures from the workshop.

Here are our 3rd graders hard at work in the art room using their new iPad microscopes to make abstract art from leaves.  Enjoy!
